SOCAL GOLDEN RETRIEVER BUDDIES’ journey began through social media’s Instagram. Families first came together for a meet up on September 23, 2016, at Rosie’s Dog Beach located in Long Beach. The families experienced such a fantastic “Golden vibe” that they vowed to share and expand this Golden community. There is no membership fee, and everyone is welcome to join our varied activities such as beach fun, weekly walks, weekend hikes, road trips, paddle boarding, and sea kayaking. Special interest classes such as Pet CPR/First Aid, Rattlesnake Avoidance Training, and Dog Sports are often suggested.
Our families also enjoy special events throughout the year such as the Golden Valentine’s Party, Golden Mother’s and Father’s Days, Red-White & Gold Fourth of July beach day, and our annual Golden pool “pawty” in Murrieta. In February 2018, our community marched as a unit for the first time in the 119th Annual Golden Dragon Parade in Chinatown to celebrate the Year of the “Golden” Dog. Whether it is a four-month-old puppy or a twelve-year-old “sugar-faced” senior, there is something for all levels of activity.
The highlight of 2018 was definitely our festival, Goldie Palooza, held in Huntington Beach’s Central Park. Hundreds of families, including 681 golden retrievers, met for the second time in our Golden Village (organized totally by volunteers) to participate in selected photo opportunities, Halloween costume contest, shopping for new products at the vendors’ booths, and participating in our giant “everyone-included” photo. We were truly amazed to witness once again the friendship among so many dogs and their families. The full proceeds from this event benefited three golden retriever rescues and two rescues affected by the wild fires.
End of October 2018, “Golden retriever Conan goes to the US” was published in South Korea with a Chapter dedicated to our community. The same week, Goldie Palooza appeared on People Magazine “Stories to Make You Smile!”. In April 2019, AKC TV released an episode of “Meet the Breeds: Golden Retrievers” featuring many outings of our community. This September, we will celebrate our third anniversary where it all started: Rosie’s Dog beach in Long Beach. And you are all invited!
The most extraordinary aspect of our community is the friendship developed among people who have come together through the love of their pets. Our members include families from Canada, South Korea to Italy, Sacramento to San Diego, South Bay to Orange County, and San Fernando to San Bernardino. This Golden community is ever-expanding, cherished by us all and inspiring other communities throughout the World.
Thank you for being a part of SoCal Golden Retriever Buddies. Golden hearts, golden paws…
